The Portuguese Lizard Camo Thong repurposes a historical European pattern into a refined and functional underlayer. Developed in the mid-20th century and used extensively by Portuguese forces during overseas operations, this camouflage features horizontal brushstroke elements in olive, brown, and khaki tones. Influenced by the French TAP47 lizard pattern, the Portuguese variant maintains a unique rhythm and spacing, giving it a bold and recognizable visual identity suited for arid and subtropical environments.

This thong is built from a 97% polyester and 3% spandex blend, offering a soft hand feel with the right amount of stretch for reliable wear. The fabric is treated with a breathable antimicrobial finish to manage odor and moisture throughout the day. It features a black elastic waistband and edging to ensure a secure fit without excessive compression. Stitching includes black thread on the outer seams and white on the inner seams, reinforcing construction while maintaining pattern visibility. A heritage pattern adapted for daily function.

Camouflage Information:
The Portuguese Lizard Camouflage (M1964 or m64) was developed in the 1960s for Portugal’s decolonization wars, particularly in Angola, Mozambique, and Guinea-Bissau. Designed for superior concealment in dense jungle and savanna environments, it features vertical dark green and brown stripes on a light green background, optimizing its effectiveness in wooded and tropical terrains. Inspired by the French TAP47 and TAP56 Lizard camouflages, the Portuguese variant was adapted to suit the combat needs of elite units such as paratroopers, commandos, and special forces.

Unlike its French predecessor, which had a more horizontal orientation, the vertical alignment of the Portuguese Lizard pattern was intended to reduce visibility when soldiers were moving upright through jungle foliage. The pattern continues to be used today by the Portuguese Marines (Fuzileiros) and remains one of the longest-serving camouflage designs in military history.
