The U.S. M81 Woodland pattern was standardized in 1981 as a successor to ERDL. It uses four colors—deep green, medium brown, black, and sand—arranged as large, irregular organic blotches. The high-contrast edges break up outlines in temperate forests and mixed woodland, and the pattern remained in wide service through the 1990s with continued use by allied forces and law‑enforcement units.
